Sometime between Friday evening and Sunday morning, Audrey was born, or more properly one might say that Audrey had come to life. Audrey is currently bubbling away on my kitchen table. Hopefully, I won't kill Audrey like its earlier siblings. Audrey is more like the Borg than a single individual.

Correct. Although, I was going to say it was godisgoode or a variant of Saccharomyces cervisiae and Lactobacilli. :)

You have a new starter, eh? How/where did you acquire it?

I started it from some organic rye flour that I picked up from the Berkeley Bowl. Before living in Hayward/Alameda, I had always cheated by spiking the starter with a little commercial yeast. However, the last three starters have been incredibly happy (i.e. doubling in size) with just flour and water.

If it gets warmer, Audrey will probably last longer than it's siblings

Warmth hasn't been their problem. The real problem is that I eventually get too busy and don't feed the starter. The hooch gets all blackish... and I eventually flush them down the drain. Usually, I can keep them alive for about a half year and then I get bored of sourdough bread every other week, or life gets really busy (holiday season/faires). Audrey has more of a fighting chance this time around... I've got several coworkers who are buying bread from me.
